One day while sitting at a cafe having breakfast, I overheard the topic next table over.
“What would I bring if I could travel into the past?”
An interesting question if I could get pass the first obvious one, “How would I even travel back in time?”
But for the argument’s safe, lets say I have mastered time travel backwards and returning to my own timeline at my leisure. The first thing I would bring are books of what is going to happen to the past and give it to either my younger self to exploit – and why not?. Or go back further in time with a camera to document history – we mustn’t change history now ? 😛
Do you know what they chose?
“Oh I would totally bring back my computer notebook or handphone back to my young grandfather and show him Facebook or Twitter!”
“Cool! I would bring back a harddisk full of movies and tv shows to my 5 year old self and that way won’t have to wait!”
“I would withdraw RM10,000 and give it to my grandparents when they first got married to buy a new house then!”, A kind gesture but let’s keep in mind, our money note now is VERY different.
“I would go find my Dad and tell him to totally marry my mom!”, This is one doesn’t understand the concept of time travel.
And a host of others where something of the future is brought back to the past to show their younger self. All technologies requiring the current version of the Internet – essentially useless in the past without the existing infrastructure.
I turned around to them and said, “You need the latest version of the Internet for any of those service to work.” To which one replied, “Then we will bring along the Internet too.”
I fear for the next generation.
If I’ll be to go back 5 years – I’ll tell myself not to go against my superior
If I’ll be to go back 10 years – I’ll tell myself not to be obsessed with society work
If I’ll be to go back 15 years – I’ll tell myself to study harder
If I’ll be to go back 20 years – I’ll tell myself to get along with my classmates
If I’ll be to go back 25 years – I’ll tell myself to love sports
In a way it’s like take a yellow flower from the future, and discover in the present that it’s just dust…
