Photography, life and everything in between

KL

Elaine at Central market

Here we have Elaine (boy you must be thinking, “you sure had one hell of a busy day didn’t you?”. Yes I did and the rain didn’t make it any easier that day).

I wish I had been able to spend more time with Elaine, I had so many ideas but tragically, the location prohibited such ideas! (Damn!) Also the rain it difficult to shooting anything.

Natalie at Central market

Here is another model I worked with that day, Natalie. Also a great model to work with, from what I gather she knew exactly what was her good angles.

Listen up aspiring models! You do yourself a big favor if you know what is your best angle and don’t just guess what is your best angle like a lot of people I know of, check them out yourself in front of a large full body length mirror!

Carace at Central market

Well this is a bit overdue. Actually it WAAAY overdue just like my other photos but recently I have been busy with work and hardly have any time for life.

Anyway, here are the recent photos I took on the model shoot with Carace at Central market which was organized by Rog (thanks!)

The Pariah

Forgot about this pic the last time.

And so another day ends….

With each step I take up the stairs to my place,
I contemplate how easily it is for me to be replaced,
believing myself to be none unique,
until I accidentally set my sight on something mystique,

There stood before me a grand site to behold,
Another master piece just like before,
For once again his masterful hand had crafted a sky like no other.
The colors mixing so beautiful like a grand symphony.

This morning I woke up….

as I drew the curtains wide
while still rubbing the sleep out of my eye,
I took notice of the sky,

There stood before the making of paint and lines
Mixing elegantly, beauty so sublimed,
yet it was beauty in the making,
so quick out of bed like children on Christmas morning,
I grabbed my tripod and camera while yawning,
dash quickly I did as I headed up the valley,
as the sun drew its brush to paint the sky,
with blue and red and hints of blend.

Finally the master was complete as I clicked the shutters away,
Not caring for the desire of coffee I pressed on endlessly.
And for my troubles I gained this.

Some landscape shots

I thought I post up some shots I recently took using my D700.

Hopefully I’ll have some more exciting to post up later. I seem to be in a creative runt at the moment.

Bokehlicious!

I just love how the f/1.2 handles………

Fun with Nikon ais 50mm f/1.2

I had a rad time yesterday playing the 50mm f/1.2 with my D700. Here are some shoots of it taking when I was out with some friends yesterday.

How I spent the long weekend

Had a good time with the Photokaki group as well as Angeline, Carace and Chris at Titiwangsa location. I will upload the photos once I am done. Here for now is the group photo

Sunlight KL.

I sent a friend of mine to the bus depot this morning and saw that the sunrise was going to be great.

I then went back home to quickly setup my gear to get this shot

The KL photography Festival and Digicolor

Yesterday I went to Titiwangsa to meet up with Albert of Glaringnotebook to check out some stuff and I could finally check out the place he was always talking about, Digicolor

Though first we went to meet up with Boon another of Albert’s friend as he wanted to borrow a lens from him. The Minolta 85mm f/1.5

We spend quite a while doing a lot of comparisons between the Minolta lenses and the Nikon lenses to see their performance. Here is my 85mm f/1.8, the bokeh in Minolta 85mm had their own distinstive character where the bokeh were stronger.

A few photos from Eugene and Carine wedding in KL

There are many good things when shooting wedding photography. You’re in charge of capturing the happiness, the joy and most of the union of 2 people who want to spend the rest of their lives together.

For a photographer though this type of shooting are the true test of your skills, it’s either a hit or miss. Do or don’t do, there is no try. I’ll be bleeding honest, I stink at wedding photography! Especially the fact when I have to sit at the head table! Though that doesn’t stop me and my D700 :P

So here are a few shots I managed to take while “seated” at the table.

My Sister Janice

My parents

The chocolate before me.

And the groom and bride.

Okay, I wish I had a longer lens at the time (no I couldn’t pack my sigma70-200 with me as it was too BIG!) hence I could only get such short range shots. I wanted to take pics of Carine’s family but my lens was too short and that we weren’t permitted to move around? Who made that stupid law?! I don’t know.

Anyway, these are not photos straight out of the cam. The color originally was terrible! I wish I had brought my S5 pro instead which would have nailed the color perfectly! But a last, poor judgement; nevertheless I made do.

So until then, pleasant dreams

KL Urbanscape photography.

Yesterday I decided to join an Urbanscape shootout with the Photokaki members here in KL as I could get to know the local clubs as well as know some of the places I can shoot about in KL. As well as being able to shoot in relative safety as it was a huge gathering of photographers.

Here are some of the shoots I took, see if you can recognise the places. It was a very overcast day but I try to make do nonetheless

Here are some new black and white pics I took on my way to work.

The sky was beautiful, the wind was cooling, the air was fresh! Perfect day for photography, so why the hell was I on my way to work?! It should be made illegal to be stuck in the office on the day is so beautiful!!!

Although it was a nice and sunny morning. But I felt that should try something for a change. I rarely shoot black and white photos ever.

Don’t always rush when taking photography. It’s not a race unless it’s sport photography, you can sometimes find the most interesting things from the most uninspiring subjects. You just need to wait and let it show itself to you.

I spotted this at Mid Valley…….

About a few month’s back in the June’s edition of popular photography, I spotted an article which you can find here that report Leica will be selling off their remaining Noctilux lens in a limited edition package for close to USD$15,000 give or take.

I thought “Wow! Bet I’ll never see a shop here sell that! Who would be crazy enough to bring in that lens to sell here? No one in Malaysia I believe would buy it.”

Anyway, last night I stopped by Mid valley to unwind and was just looking around when I spotted this .

My jaw dropped at that sight. Some shop actually had the balls to bring it in!!!! The price of this sucker is RM53,888!!!! That’s more then my hire purchase for my CAR! This is only a manual lens! For crying out louds! with such a price tag I expect the glass to be made from ruby quartz! As well as the lens material to be titanium!!!! But strangely, I did some background check, aside from the fast aperture of about f/1.0, there is nothing else special about this lens.

My next big question, what kind of idiot buys such a lens?! @_@

D700 + 14-24mm

Yesterday I managed to have a get together with Albert Ng of glaringnotebook along with his friend Richard as they wanted to try out Richard’s new 14-24mm on FX sensor.

Yeah! Its fixed!

Yesterday after leaving work, I headed out for YL cameras at Pudu to pick up my camera.

Here is a shot of it after I got home. It’s all fixed! I was worried that I would have had to pay a huge sum just to have the glass repaired! But the only quoted me Rm100 for the repair and it only took a day to fix it up!

Anyway, I’m going to test it out along with my Velbon VC6 as well which I had picked up frm Hike Enterprise in Penang! So until then pleasant dreams~~!!

Worse things happen at the last minute.

Crap. I had dropped my power adaptor for my macbook onto my Fujifilm s5 pro. At first I didn’t realized I had done anything wrong until my brain replayed the faint sound of something cracking again.

It was then my initial feeling of indifference started to become panic. I immediately picked up my S5 pro and examined for any external damage and to my horror, the top LCD screen was cracked.
Damn it! Well, I then took it down to YL cameras to see if they could get it fixed as the warranty had already ran out. The guy at the shop quoted me a price of about RM300++ to get it fixed. “What the Hell!?” For small plexy glass thingy, I have to fork out that much?!”
I then spoke with the shop owner who quoted me a price of Rm100 which was much reasonable as it was just the glass part that was just broken. The guy just now quoted me the price to replace the whole head of the camera including of the flash casing along with the viewfinder head!
He said it would be fixed by Monday night and that they would call me once it was done. Hopefully it will be soon so until then pleasant dreams~

I have returned (cue Star War’s empire music)

Well I’ve been back since yesterday to the grind of life.

First tip upon returning is when they guy operating the damn projector keeps telling you that the projector’s weird green color cast is due to it warming up, don’t freaking believe them! The damn bulb is broken and they just don’t want to pay to replace it even after you had paid them Rm500 for it!
This is what you get from Labuan, lots of lying bastards who do not want to pay a penny to maintain their equipment. I almost wanted to take the chair and smashed it over the guy’s head for outright lying to me. This was on my brother’s wedding dinner and the dang stupid projector’s lightbulb was completely shot, the only color working on it was green and the focus knob had broken off.
Also another important tip, the wedding photographers are crap in Labuan. Guess they feel like they don’t have to give it their all since they are zero competition in the business. Almost makes me want to jump into the business just to screw with their life.
So until then, pleasant dreams!

A little fun with a minor color tweak.

I was bored that day and decided to look for some artful (does such a word even exist?) inspiration.

So until then, pleasant dreams~~

For some reason……I miss

I miss the fact I could right now drive myself down to Komtar/Prangin mall in Georgetown and be back in an hour before anyone knows it.

I miss the sights and sounds of the many shop along Penang road.

I miss the weekend mornings where I would be walking along Heritage road and admiring all the shops with their antique architecture.

I miss the fact I could be in my apartment in noon, look out the window and know the sunset would be beautiful where I could then go to Genting Hill for a fantastic sunset along with delicious dinner.

I miss the fact I could drive all the way from Bayan Lepas to Georgetown in under 15 minutes without encountering toll every 3 minutes

I miss the fact I didn’t need a touch and go card.

I miss the fact I could simply go down to Sunshine market in five minutes for breakfast and morning paper.

I miss the fact I don’t encounter traffic lights every ten seconds

I miss the fact I don’t need a map book in Penang

I miss the fact that if I miss a turn I don’t have to worry as I can always find a U-turn not far to correct my mistake.

I miss the feel of the wind against my face when I am at the beach ( 5 minutes from my place).

I miss the joy of hanging out with my friends and going out to TT.

I miss the soothing sounds of the bamboo tree swerving in the wind outside of my apartment complex.

I miss the feel of the cool icy touch of the air on the helicopter pad at the top of Komtar Tower.

I miss the fact I could go to any shopping mall in Penang Island and not worry about what time of the day it is or the condition of traffic as it would only incur a small amount of delay (unlike here which can incur a delay of half a century)

I miss the sight of grass flower as the morning sun shines it’s yellow light through its flower casting a beautiful shadow along the ground.

I miss the touch of beautiful sight from the top of Penang hill as the sun rises over Pulau Jerejak.

I miss the smell of salty air mixed with a hint of fish at the fishing village along the coastel highway in the wee early morning hours of the day.

I miss Penang

Pleasant dreams~~

Snake Attack at KL bird park

This happened when I was at the bird park 30th August 2008 around noon.

I was wondering the bird park and was beginning to think it was time to head home when I was at the duck pond enclosure. I’ll be honest,it was pretty boring there, the ducks looked so plain and the waters were murky and dirty. I had hoped it was clear so I could play with reflection, the pond was separated into 2 halves. One half housed the flamingos while one half housed the ducks.

Each half was separated by a huge net, everyone else was at the far end of the flamingo side. I was on the duck pond side. There was a tourist couple there as well. It was still cloudy so everything appeared greyed out.

I had trained my lens on one of the ducks in the pond thinking I would take one more shot before going home when all of a sudden the duck tried to fly off but couldn’t and then the duck cried out in fright when out from the water  a brownish coil appeared to wrap around it rendering it immobile. It had been caught by a snake!

Bird Park KL

After the butterfly park on the same day, I was thinking of heading off but due to the way the whole area’s roads and signs, I found myself at the Bird Park (whether this design was intention or not I don’t know). So I decided to make use of the opportunity and went in.

In retrospec, I’m so glad I did (but more on that in my next entry, this one is just about the sights and birds of this place).

I must say considering how shoddy the Malaysian government works, I half-heartedly expected the place to be only filled with Pigeons and crows only. But to my surprise I found many species of birds (as well as reptile but that’s another story).

I’ll the photos to do talking on what I saw. Basically the whole area has a very high up net place over it in order to prevent the birds from escaping. There are about 4 zones which reflect the type of environment of each of the birds there (too bad there is no artic zone).

Each zone is then separated by its own net as well as doors. Only the flightless birds section did not have any net over them.
