Good Smile Company – Fate/unlimited codes – Saber Lily 1/7 Scale PVC Figure
Today’s latest figure it none other than Saber Lily by GSC who no doubt are currently rolling in dough from the skyrocket demand for their latest production which has drawn huge otakus to gladly empty their wallets or bank accounts.
No other figure has drawn such huge demand since Ryogi Shiki 1/7 also by GSC. GSC is really raking in the money this year!
Alter Choko Sennin Haruka – Shihodo Narika Choko Sennin Ver. 1/8 Scale PVC Figure
I actually made these shots last Friday but for some stupid reason, I was unable to upload them to smugmug from any Malaysian base Internet network for the past 4 days. I only managed to upload them just now using the Internet connection from my work place which happens to be using a non-Malaysian Internet provider. So yeah it’s great to use a service that is non-Malaysian.
Anyway, enough talk of useless Internet services. Today’s topic is a recent purchase I made from the Xl-shop, when I saw here, I knew I just had to get her! Previously I could have gotten Haruka as well but I was short on cash then but then I saw Narika, I knew I had to get her! Even though it meant eating bread for a few months but damn worth it!
Spotted recently at Wonder festival 2009 in Japan
A 1/4 Kos-mos resin kit figure volks which measures to about 40~50 cm judging from reports.
Ah yes! My ever lovely Kos-mos! Said to be the most beautiful physical manifestation yet ever to be made! Volks has truly outdone themselves with their pieces.
The price for this baby? Let’s see, reports put it at 50,000 YEN which about USD $500 or RM1700 ringgit unpainted and unassembled. Yes folks this darling comes to you completely bare-naked, no paint job and requires assembly!
So why would people pay for this? Its hard to say, there are many reason why they would do it but I think two word comes to mind because they are bloody crazy and it is this die hard fandom that western companies are now trying to tap into (especially their wallets) but so far have failed miserably as they cannot seem to grasp the concept of making quality stuff (what is this concept of making good quality products? China doesn’t do it, so why should I? Said the US product manager).
Anyway, what do I care what they think? We’re here to only talk about Kos-mos!
Here we have the actual unpainted but assembled figure shown on display at wonfes recently, you can very well see that she is indeed a large figure (1/4) at about 3.7 kgs.
Sometimes I wish I can spend a whole day on my hobby.
For the past few weeks I’ve been rather busy, whether it’s for work or family, I hardly have enough time for myself anymore. Anyway here is a shot I took when I was playing with my studio light set along with one of my figures.
I’ve been trying to improve my studio photography but for some reason I just can’t get myself out of this slump. It always happens around July til October.
I should have joined the guys at Ipoh for that swimsuit shoot >_< but curse my luck that work always had to kick into overdrive around that time every year. Even though I knew it would be the last big event until next year or at least until November, though it does allow me to finally go through the backlog of photos I have yet to process.
But still……I wish there was some major event.
Oh well, back to work………boo hoo
Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s Asuka open season on pre-orders!
Ah yes, Asuka Soryu Langley, or should I call her Asuka Shikinami Langley now?
Some fun with figurines and wrapping paper.
What happens when you have the whole Saturday evening to yourself, a macro lens, some wrapping paper and a rin nendoroid?
An experiment in nendoroid photography.
Fujifilm s5 pro, you are a good friend indeed!
God damnit! Why doesn’t Fujifilm make an FX version of this WONDERFUL DSLR?! If there is one I would have bought it over the D700!
I mean sure, it would probably be twice the price of the D700 but shit yeah it would be the last DSLR I would ever NEED! HECK! I would even want to be buried with that DSLR when I’m dead of old age!!
But then, that’s not to say the S5 pro is a slouch, far from it! It can really hold it’s own against even full frame cameras and that is why sometimes I have a hard time in choosing what camera to bring to a shoot. “Should I bring the S5 or the D700?” This thought always comes to mind when I go out or attend an event.
Anyway, since I was doing a review for studio flash set for my last entry I also decided to bring out my S5 after I had completed the review to have some fun with it!
I’ve been told time and time again that the S5 pro really shines when used in studios and wedding shoots. I’ve never used it in a wedding shoot nor have I used it in a studio shoot until now and boy! I had some really fun trying a lot of ideas all the while not worry about time constraints!
But here is the best shot from all that!
The golden shell Sprite 180 studio flash setup.
Today I finally got around to fully test the S180 studio light setup as I had absolutely nothing to do today.
I also decided to take this opportunity to yes one of my other figures in my collection aside from Momo.
Here in her lively splendor is Ayanami Rei by Yamato.
But before we begin here is the rundown about this studio light set. It consist of
1. 3 strobe lights
2. A large square diffuser
3. A large octogonal diffuser
4. A honeycomb head with 4 different colored gel
All the lights are very well built and it seems to be equiped with all the trimmings you would expect from a studio light set, minus the expensive price tag of course.
Also I better put a disclaimer about this review, this is my first time using a studio light set all by myself and without the hustle and bustle of a time schedule but I make no claim that this is an exhaustive review of this studio light and I make no claim that I am very very sure of my techniques here. Right let’s get down to it shall we?

Testing different types of flash setup style.
For this test I will be using my figurine Momo.
For starters, let go with the basic 2 lamp types which I picked up a Ikea for RM60 each (inclusive of light bulb if I remember correctly)

Here I have 2 lamps setup
Ayanami Rei by Kotobukiya and by Yamato
Well well well, this was unexpected…..
So on Friday, I went to the post office to pick up my package and this was the state of the package (note I’ve blurred out the address). It looks like someone had sat on it.
New lessons learned from figurine

Here are some shots I had taken before I left Penang in my small studio that I’ve just uploaded.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu 1/4 Scale Pre-Painted PVC Figure: Asahina Mikuru (Bunny Version)
Now this is one rare figurine thanks in part to the level of quality and fans buying this up in a flash. Here we have Mikuru Asahina in a bunny suit. When I found this little beauty along with a Haruhi version, I chose this version as the level of workmanship is damn high and also I’m a Mikuru and Yuki fan.
Revoltech Saber sculpted by Enoki Tomohide
I picked this one up when I was in KL last month at the model shop located at Pearl point. I’ll have to say this, Saber here is sure one hard to pose figure!
I only managed to get her into 2 poses before I realized that if I tried any harder I may accidentally break one of her joints. The other one I have of Rin Tohsaka which is also a Revoltech unit was a lot easier to pose. What compounds this problem further is when you try to pose her with her sword excalibur (I think that’s what it’s called).
Anyway the detail and color are pretty good on this model and the cuttings on her are very fine and accurate. I have friends who collect these things solely for the collector’s value and wanting to have a complete set or something. I usually buy them base on their quality of workmanship so my collection is very haphazard of different figures from different series where as my friends try to collect everyone of them for each anime series.
Figurines
Now this is a new field for me, I never tried this type of photography before as I never had any figurines to try out on. I had seen a lot of this models when I was in Japan and had considered getting a few but I was trying to conserve money at the time so I never got them, it will be a mistake I will have to regret now.
I was at the one-stop small near gurney yesterday when I came across this model shop and decided to take a look, I found a figure that look simply beautiful and it was well made, so I decided to buy it along with another smaller one.
Here are some shots of the figurines I bought, I don’t recognize the pink hair girl but the brunette is from fate/stay night
