Bon odori KL 2008

I went to the 32nd bon odori that was held at the Panasonic sport complex. I had high hopes for the event as I had always really enjoyed myself at the ones in Penang but sadly my hopes were somewhat misplaced.

First problem I had encountered was how insane the roads and highway were designed and laid out. I don’t know but I can’t seem to shake the feeling that the roads in KL was designed by a disgruntled drunken depress underpaid desk monkey or just an idiotic politician whose major was how to get the biggest bribe with the least amount of work (take your pick).

I spent more then 1 hour just to get to the place as the maps as well as the designed of the actual roads contradicted each other immensely. I got lost for an hour trying to make sense of something when I decided to stop and ask someone. After that the journey took less then 25 minutes.

After reaching there at about 4:45pm (I had left my place at 2pm…..) I must admit, the organizers are very thorough in all their details. They had people handling parking which involved literally guiding visitors to an empty parking spot so that you wouldn’t park some place that might obstruct traffic.

I was surprisingly early as evident by the small crowd then

Bon odori

This weekend at the Panasonic Sports Complex, Shah Alam is where the 32nd Bon odori matsuri will be taking place for 2008.

I rather like this festival as it gives me a glimpse of another culture that I rarely get to see (I’m use to the Malaysian stuff which has really made me bored).

I have been to the ones in Penang (2006/2007)but I’m wondering will the one in KL be as soon as good? The reason is because from what I understand and know it seems Penang has a bigger population of Japanese from KL (if this is incorrect, please let me know and I will make an updates with credits to you).

As I was back in 2007 with my gear. Most of the same stuff is still with me minus the Lowe Pro 300 sling shot.

I remember that it also rained every year, so this event is not without its minor problems. Hopefully this time it won’t rain and I hope to get some better shots. Here are the only 2 notable shots I took in 2007, (in 2006 I wasn’t into photography yet).

So until then, pleasant dreams~!

Run you fool!

Second round.

Some more photos today but it’s going to be slow as I have no Internet at home and I seem to keep needing a lot of stuff from the Internet to work on these photos.

So next up is Mina Momohara from Total Benefit!

First shots. (Updated)

Alright, I’m now updating this article properly as I was in a rush yesterday to get this first pic up. Here are the first batch of pics from the super GT event.

I have return from Super GT 2008

After spending the whole of Monday recovering from Super GT I will now begin editing as well as uploading the pics. But first something I got to take away from my time at Super GT 2008!

A signed photograph of the Race queens Ayami and Kotomi! Which I’ve scanned here and will keep the original locked away safely!! (I also gave them each a set of photos I took of them in Sunway).
So until then, pleasant dreams!

How I spent THIS last weekend

I had a photo expedition on Sunday morning and a roadshow to shoot on Saturday. Did I have fun that weekend? You be the judge, a shot taken by fuminari

Need I say more?

How I spent my weekend……

Okay, last weekend a friend of mine Andy asked if I could come up to Penang for a photo event shoot (Super GT roadshow at Autocity with appearance by the GT race queens from Japan) as he could get me OP (Official Photographer) pass which means it would give me unrestricted access to anywhere and I could shoot anything without being hassle AND I would have direct access to the GT race queens!

Super GT 2007 Japanese Race queens

This is where I show you the reason that 80% of the photographers go to this event. The remaining 20% consist of 50% car buff fans and the other 50% are photojournalist sent by magazines or newspapers.

Those on top give you an idea of what we can expect there. Another important note about this event is that it brings in more viewers then any other racing event in the Asian region, now what do these “viewers” go and “see” is rather questionable but hell, who am I to criticize?

Super GT 2007 race local queens

Here are some shots I took from last year’s Super GT Japan that was being held at Sepang Circuit. One good thing about KL since moving here is that I don’t have to make the long journey down to KL for this.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, this event is so big for photographers not just because it present a grand opportunity to test their skills in catching that elusive car magazine photo but also because we will be pitted against other photographers (most of them full time PROS) who will be trying to get photos of those Super GT race queens (local ones shown here, Japanese ones later!!).

First up are the local GT race queens. I think this time I might try something wider but it’s really hard to get a good shots when you’re using a 70-200mm lens and the fact that while you’re trying to compose for a good shots, everyone other little maggots are getting in your way so you need to be quick!

The real skills is not just in getting shots of the local girls but the Japanese ones (wink, wink). So until then pleasant dreams!

The booth babes of PC fair April 2008 at KLCC

I went to the PC fair last weekend with Andy on Saturday and then with Nick and with my brother on Sunday (yes, I went there for 2 days straight).

My original purpose was to get a nice LCD monitor from Samsung but all the models they had there couldn’t change the viewing level of their monitors. I check every brand I encountered and it was the same, non-adjustable except for titlt . After learning that the view angle of a monitor is important and must be adjustable for comfortable viewing (I learned this lesson first hand after working at Intel for a month and getting a neck sprain), I decided I must buy a monitor with level and title controls but since I found non, I decided to hold off the purchase for another day.

Aside from that there was another reason why I went to the PC fair that unlike the PC fair in Penang, the PC fair in KL always have booth babes! So here are the shots.

Epson advance photography and printing seminar

We found out about this event from a posting in Rojak Studio by TY informing that a seminar by Epson showcasing their printer, scanner, PMP as well as color management software was going to be held at the Holiday inn at Batu Ferringi.

The event was to start at 7:45am, so ChewingGum, Cham, mybest and I headed out at about 6:40am and headed to McD at Sunrise gurney for breakfast while we waited for the rest of the gang to arrived.

So after a good breakfast we headed off at about 7:20am and reached there roughly on time. The event started off with registration and a brief introduction of what the plan would, at about 8 or so was the model shooting where we would have to pick the best pic from our shots to be printed by Epson’s line of printers. There would also be a lucky draw where the prizes would be Epson’s latest line of consumer base printers.
