“Cica loves you” from Kinokuniya
You know what I love about going to Kinokuniya? Even though its about an hour’s drive from where I live?
Getting some great books but you know what is even better? Getting great books that haven’t been censored by the black marker pen of doom!
Gear review: Square light tent

Today I'll reviewing my latest purchase. A square light tent measuring at 80cm which I bought from aiphos in photomalaysia. Its pretty cheap at only RM100, other places were selling it for RM350++ for roughly the same size. Here's a shot of the light tent with a Nikon SB-600 just to give you a rough idea of how big it is...
Figure Review: Asuka 1/6 Test plugsuit by Kotobikuya PVC

While the box looked okay and undamaged but....
I finally have one of the new Asuka figure released this year in conjunction with the release of the the second movie. This one was made by Kotobukiya~! I’m rather a big fan of their PVC figures.
It had actually arrived a week earlier but I’m always at work during the day so Saturday was the only time they could send it. I could have picked it up myself after work but because the office where they are located is near SEGI university I opt not to as traffic there is always congested regardless of the time and weather.
Now the package looked alright externally and the fact I sent via Fedex but this is Malaysia we’re talking about here and it just wouldn’t be Malaysia if the content didn’t get messed up a little.
Like how the Malaysian government treat their citizens…..XD
But I digress, I’ll save the political jokes and insults for another article…
I’m still alive~~

I seem to get into this very often...
So what have I’ve been up to lately? Well getting my life in order I guess. The reason why I haven’t been posting much lately was because my whole group was retrenched, right after Super GT (At least I managed to use the company’s T1 line to upload all my photos before they made the group redundant).
Hence my lack of posts, though that’s not to say I was inactive. I did go to Bon Odori 2010 just to relax and forget my worries for a while.
It’s funny, 2 years in this company and I get retrenched again. Damn just my luck. At least they gave quite a nice severance package (a few months even though I only worked for 2 years) as compared to my last employer who basically didn’t give shit but what do you expect from an MNC operating in a free-trade zone?
Mind your weight!
Some of you might remember my article or take on the Desert Island Scenario where I mentioned you should absolutely either keep camera gear to the lightest or none at all but instead focus on survival equipment.
Well here is a short story of Ed Stafford on CNN who is concluding a 2 year trek through the amazon with his friend Gadiel “Cho” Sanchez Rivera. You can find the article here.
As I also mentioned previously, the reason why you must keep weight to a minimum because the more gear or stuff you carry, the shorter the distance you travel per day. And you cannot be stingy on survival gear which will be heavy! As exemplify by this paragraph on the CNN article.
“Cho and I take turns up front with the machete. We walk 50 minutes of every hour and rest 10 minutes, so we do 25-minute shifts. It’s enough when you have to carry a 35 to 45 kg pack (the weight depends on the quantity of food and duration of the leg.) ”, Ed Stafford.
The paragraph below further proves my point that even if you are in tip-top physical condition (which most photographers I’ve met these days are NOT!), you will be dead exhausted by the end of the day…….
“When we break for a rest and slump onto our packs we stare at the floor and try and regain the composure to speak to each other. Sometimes this never comes and we don’t speak all day. Nothing sinister — it’s just complete exhaustion. We don’t lunch; we just keep grazing on farinha and salt.”, Ed Stafford.
See? This gear masturbation is bullshit. That’s why I hate all this talk about desert island or “Lost” scenario. You will not and cannot go nuts on the camera gear when you have more important things to prepare when going on a hiking trip whether its for a few days to a few months or like these 2 guys, a few years!
Bon odori Penang 2010

Bon Odori Penang 2010
I know its a bit late since everyone else has already upload theirs since last week but I have a legitimate excuse! I’m Lazy!
So how was this year’s bon odori? Well for the first time it wasn’t hot! That’s because it rained heavily during the 1st hour, drastically cooling down the hot air. The bad thing though it that it made all the area around the stage muddy!
Thanks to Chewing Gum for driving us in his new Honda City!!! DAMN THAT’S ONE SWEET RIDE!
Also thanks again for lending us the OP passes! I didn’t even expected them ! Honest! XD (They were limited to 5 people only so Rojak Studio sent in their best event photographers. Note, these are the same people who shoot weddings for a living!)
I have to admit this year’s event was pretty good. Lots of fun, games and thanks to a special sale of Yukatas at Queensbay mall, almost everyone was wearing one this year.
B-Suite Penang. Biggest room at the lowest rates.
I’ve never seen a hotel room this big and this cheap in my whole life! Not even those expensive 5 star hotels are this big and cheap! How big is it?!

This big!
Located at Bayan Lepas, next to Bukit Jambul. The rates are damn good (Rm290 for 2 nights!). Next time, I’m staying here again!
Bon Odori 2010 at Penang

Okay, technically people wear Yukatas to festivals(Matsuri) in Japan rather than Kimonos but I couldn't resist the cuteness here~~~! ^_^
Once again I’ll be heading up to Penang for Bon Odori Penang. I could have opt for KL’s Bon odori instead at the Panasonic Stadium but then I wouldn’t have the fun of hanging out with RojakStudio.
So communication will be limited to what I can access at the hotel. I’ll be back on the 18th (Sunday) evening.
Also please for the love of everything don’t be hot like last year’s Bon odori!
In case anyone is wondering when and where it will be..
Location: Esplanade, Penang
Date: 17th July 2010
Organizer: The Consulate of Japan, Penang State Tourism Development &
Culture and Bon Odori Committee
Contact: 04-2263030
See you guys there~~~! ^_^
Miara Patthavorarong.

One sultry babe~~~~
No….I didn’t misspell that. That really is her name! Also known as Inkky as she wants to be called. This is the final series of the Bangkok Model shoot from March 2010.
Inkky quite an amazing model to work with while she’s not as daring as Benjie but she does know what you really need rather than what you really want~~.
For this shoot like Benjie’s it was totally shot using the Nikkor 85mm F/1.8 AF-D. Though I don’t know how the f/1.4 would have performed in this situation either……
Anyway, moving on. Enjoy the pics~~
Things I hate to hear…..

Sometimes I wish I can just punch their lights out!!
There are many things I hate to hear in my life. They are
1. “You’re good but I think I am way better because I think so.”
2. “No” (while shaking head).
3. “But ancient tradition dictates….(blah blah blah).” (old people ranting of ancient shit with no reason like why use leeches to cure anemia or something baseless.)
I could go on with a 100 more items but today I’ll add another item to my long list of things I hate….
Super GT 2010 At Sepang Malaysia Day 1

"Red Ribbon" this photos was literally asking to black and white but I left the ribbon in color for the emphasis on it.
Finally managed to upload Saturday’s photos. Although this year’s Super GT Japanese Racequeen line up were not as impressive as previous years but there were notable ones and even the local ones were pretty impressive.
So please enjoy!
I’m Back from Super GT 2010 Sepang~~~

This was the waiting line for the pitwalk on Sunday with Christ and I at the front of the line....We've been waiting under the hot sun for HOURS!! More photos to come later!!!!
Super GT 2010 at Sepang!
By the time you read this, I would be with my homies at Sepang getting reading for Super GT 2010!
So communication will be limited to cellphones only. I’ll be back on Sunday
While I’ll see the rest of you guys later in the pitwalk~~~~!
Keep those batteries ready and the sunblock plenty!
Yup. Gainax is trying to rob me blind XD

More reasons why I will be broke by October 2010. When are they going to make a Rei version?!
They are trying to steal my money! By making me buy figures by Alter and Kotobukiya!!!
Damn them! The fiends!! XD
Seriously this one looks sweet!
Decisions, decisions, which one should I get?!
Another reason why I love violent games!!!!
I am so getting this game!!! No more sneaking! It’s kill kill kill TIME!!!!
Metal Gear Rising! Another continuation of the Metal gear Solid game! Can’t wait for it!!!!
I think 35mm is dead in Malaysia…….
Last Friday I had a lunch with my co-workers at Mid-valley. I also decided to drop a roll of Kodak Ektar 100 (negative film, not slide). I figured that since it wasn’t slide film the shops wouldn’t have any problems developing….boy was I wrong!!!
I’ll be in Penang this weekend for the Super GT roadshow.

I know this is rather sudden but I’ll be heading up to Penang this weekend for the Super GT roadshow at autocity.
Initial reports indicated that Autobacs would not be sending anyone (Super GT ambassadors) up to Penang this year so I had decided not to go up this year BUT! (There is always a but!) I got word that they would indeed sent up there so I’m heading up tomorrow and hopefully get some good shots.
I could have just go and see them at Lowyat this Sunday as well but the crowd would be 20 times the size than what I would encounter at Autocity hence why it would be a lot easier to go there instead.
(Stop staring at Fate on the left!!!! XD)
So I’ll be out of contact this weekend though I do hope to return with some awesome shots.
In case you’re wondering, this year’s super GT ambassadors to Malaysia are Megumi Hattori & Kozue Nitta.
You can find out more about them here.
For a more thorough Q & A session, go here
I’ll see you guys there!
How to avoid working from home.

Look, not even Rei works from home and we know how much of a brown nose she is at Nerv! XD
I remember my first job, they gave me a nice IBM thinkpad T41 to use. I initially thought this was a wonderful perk but then I realized it came with a serious price tag.
Is there a mouse squeaking in my 17-35mm lens?

The Nikkor AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8
About a while ago my favorite lens started to make squeaking noises whenever it focused.
At first I figure was due to lubrication problems but didn’t think much of it until weeks ago
Rebuild of Evangelion 1/6 Pre-Painted PVC Figure: Makinami Mari review

Makinami Mari illustrious
Okay for those who missed the arrival story of this new figure, you can check it out here. Anyway moving on, now that Gainax have decided to “rebuild” their much loved Evangelion series with 4 new planned movies (2 have already been made with the third one soon), they hope to re-work some of the element to further improve what was already a wonderfully told story. Among these improvements planned was the introduction of a new characters named Makinami Mari.
April loot report.

The 3 new figures with Rin presenting...
A bit late I know since it’s may but I’ve been busy so here they are! I did managed to score some good deals this time!
