How I spent the long weekend

Had a good time with the Photokaki group as well as Angeline, Carace and Chris at Titiwangsa location. I will upload the photos once I am done. Here for now is the group photo

Sunlight KL.

I sent a friend of mine to the bus depot this morning and saw that the sunrise was going to be great.

I then went back home to quickly setup my gear to get this shot

While playing Star war:Forced Unleashed.

I found something that so totally makes it worth getting this game for……

Watch this you tube clip

Jar Jar Binks in carbonite! I found this clip that resemble what I found, I also decided to try and cut the whole block in half the minute I saw it!!!!

The current price of Fujifilm S5 pro.

Here is the current price of the Fujifilm S5 pro……….

Rm3,500……Damn what a drop…… This deal can be found at Shashinki

I really love this cam, just wish it had a bigger sensor and a little (READ LOTS!) faster and it would be perfect!

Get it if you’ve been waiting. I don’t think it will hold out much longer as Fujifilm appears to be pulling out of the DSLR race.

Till then, pleasant dreams~~~

What I bought at KLPF

Some of the things I managed to get at the KLPF. Nothing fancy, just things to help spiff up my gear.

2 rolls of Ilford Delta 3200! For Rm18 each, I’ve always wanted to try some high ISO film!
A new padded tripod bag, the original one that came with my tripod was very filmsy and was not padded hence offering zero protection to the tripod as well as the guy carrying the tripod. I got it for Rm40, the original price was Rm49 but the guy gave me a discount even without me asking it. Sweet!

I also managed to get a copy of the product catalog and I finally bought a lens pen for Rm20
Total up for my spending for KLPF is Rm96. Not bad. Anyway, until then pleasant dreams~~

Today and yesterday I read the greatest doujinshi in my life

This entry is for the fans of the old series of New Genesis Evangelion. I only recently found this doujinshi online and I’ll be honest, I didn’t sleep last night. I spent the whole time reading it all.

This doujinshi consist of 6 volume. I managed to find the fan translation version online , sadly I do not ever see this doujinshi getting translation officially as it contains scenes of sex and gore. Unless of course they modify it but I rather that they don’t. It’s integral to the story, this is not a hentai manga. The story is sooo brilliantly written, and romantic. IT NEEDS IT!

This manga is one of the many unofficially non-canonical continuation from the movie “The end of evangelion”. Sort of like a “what if” ending but it takes a mature and excellent approach (Hideaki Anno, EAT SHIT AND DIE!!),I so wish this had been the ending, its drawn so beautiful as well. Not like some crappy doujinshi but REALLY well! The story again I cannot re-iterate enough is so WONDERFUL! You’re not a true-blue eva fan if you have not read this doujinshi! READ it! It will make you so happy and give closure for to this anime series for you!!!

Published by STUDIO KIMIGABUCHI. This doujinshi for fans who wished for a better ending.

The volumes consist of :
1. Re-take 1
2. Re-take 2
3. Re-take 3
4. Re-take zero
5. Re-take 4
6. Re-take after.

It should be read in that order. I swear if there is a official translation version for this manga, I will BUY all of it!!

So until then pleasant dream! I didn’t sleep last night but I feel so awake…….I never felt this great in a long time already…..

The KL photography Festival and Digicolor

Yesterday I went to Titiwangsa to meet up with Albert of Glaringnotebook to check out some stuff and I could finally check out the place he was always talking about, Digicolor

Though first we went to meet up with Boon another of Albert’s friend as he wanted to borrow a lens from him. The Minolta 85mm f/1.5

We spend quite a while doing a lot of comparisons between the Minolta lenses and the Nikon lenses to see their performance. Here is my 85mm f/1.8, the bokeh in Minolta 85mm had their own distinstive character where the bokeh were stronger.

Do not make me jump through hoops

I don’t mean the actual sense, metamorphically speaking of course. Whether it’s for a Job interview (Photography related assignment or day job). I think I speak for everyone when they have encountered situations like this, “Do not make me jump through hoops”

A few photos from Eugene and Carine wedding in KL

There are many good things when shooting wedding photography. You’re in charge of capturing the happiness, the joy and most of the union of 2 people who want to spend the rest of their lives together.

For a photographer though this type of shooting are the true test of your skills, it’s either a hit or miss. Do or don’t do, there is no try. I’ll be bleeding honest, I stink at wedding photography! Especially the fact when I have to sit at the head table! Though that doesn’t stop me and my D700 :P

So here are a few shots I managed to take while “seated” at the table.

My Sister Janice

My parents

The chocolate before me.

And the groom and bride.

Okay, I wish I had a longer lens at the time (no I couldn’t pack my sigma70-200 with me as it was too BIG!) hence I could only get such short range shots. I wanted to take pics of Carine’s family but my lens was too short and that we weren’t permitted to move around? Who made that stupid law?! I don’t know.

Anyway, these are not photos straight out of the cam. The color originally was terrible! I wish I had brought my S5 pro instead which would have nailed the color perfectly! But a last, poor judgement; nevertheless I made do.

So until then, pleasant dreams

Nikon 85mm f/1.8

It’s considered to be one of the best portrait lens considering focal length-wise of course. On a crop sensor it’s still considered quite a good portrait lens as it becomes 135mm.

KL Urbanscape photography.

Yesterday I decided to join an Urbanscape shootout with the Photokaki members here in KL as I could get to know the local clubs as well as know some of the places I can shoot about in KL. As well as being able to shoot in relative safety as it was a huge gathering of photographers.

Here are some of the shoots I took, see if you can recognise the places. It was a very overcast day but I try to make do nonetheless

Here are some new black and white pics I took on my way to work.

The sky was beautiful, the wind was cooling, the air was fresh! Perfect day for photography, so why the hell was I on my way to work?! It should be made illegal to be stuck in the office on the day is so beautiful!!!

Although it was a nice and sunny morning. But I felt that should try something for a change. I rarely shoot black and white photos ever.

Don’t always rush when taking photography. It’s not a race unless it’s sport photography, you can sometimes find the most interesting things from the most uninspiring subjects. You just need to wait and let it show itself to you.

I spotted this at Mid Valley…….

About a few month’s back in the June’s edition of popular photography, I spotted an article which you can find here that report Leica will be selling off their remaining Noctilux lens in a limited edition package for close to USD$15,000 give or take.

I thought “Wow! Bet I’ll never see a shop here sell that! Who would be crazy enough to bring in that lens to sell here? No one in Malaysia I believe would buy it.”

Anyway, last night I stopped by Mid valley to unwind and was just looking around when I spotted this .

My jaw dropped at that sight. Some shop actually had the balls to bring it in!!!! The price of this sucker is RM53,888!!!! That’s more then my hire purchase for my CAR! This is only a manual lens! For crying out louds! with such a price tag I expect the glass to be made from ruby quartz! As well as the lens material to be titanium!!!! But strangely, I did some background check, aside from the fast aperture of about f/1.0, there is nothing else special about this lens.

My next big question, what kind of idiot buys such a lens?! @_@

D700 + 14-24mm

Yesterday I managed to have a get together with Albert Ng of glaringnotebook along with his friend Richard as they wanted to try out Richard’s new 14-24mm on FX sensor.

Testing different types of flash setup style.

As promised I will be presenting in this entry a brief review of the various types of flash setup for when you’re on a small budget. (Seriously, what kind of a “small” budget is this when it consist of an S5 pro and 2 SB600?!)

For this test I will be using my figurine Momo.

For starters, let go with the basic 2 lamp types which I picked up a Ikea for RM60 each (inclusive of light bulb if I remember correctly)

Here I have 2 lamps setup

Yeah! Its fixed!

Yesterday after leaving work, I headed out for YL cameras at Pudu to pick up my camera.

Here is a shot of it after I got home. It’s all fixed! I was worried that I would have had to pay a huge sum just to have the glass repaired! But the only quoted me Rm100 for the repair and it only took a day to fix it up!

Anyway, I’m going to test it out along with my Velbon VC6 as well which I had picked up frm Hike Enterprise in Penang! So until then pleasant dreams~~!!

Best advice I can give.

To people who want to take up photography as a hobby.

“Retouching” means photoshopping. Til then, pleasant dreams

Worse things happen at the last minute.

Crap. I had dropped my power adaptor for my macbook onto my Fujifilm s5 pro. At first I didn’t realized I had done anything wrong until my brain replayed the faint sound of something cracking again.

It was then my initial feeling of indifference started to become panic. I immediately picked up my S5 pro and examined for any external damage and to my horror, the top LCD screen was cracked.
Damn it! Well, I then took it down to YL cameras to see if they could get it fixed as the warranty had already ran out. The guy at the shop quoted me a price of about RM300++ to get it fixed. “What the Hell!?” For small plexy glass thingy, I have to fork out that much?!”
I then spoke with the shop owner who quoted me a price of Rm100 which was much reasonable as it was just the glass part that was just broken. The guy just now quoted me the price to replace the whole head of the camera including of the flash casing along with the viewfinder head!
He said it would be fixed by Monday night and that they would call me once it was done. Hopefully it will be soon so until then pleasant dreams~

Penang, potholes a many

Ever since I arrived up in Penang I have notice the number of potholes in the road have double since the last time I was there.

I think the main reason for this was the recent heavy flooding throughout the whole island. I wanted to do some photoshooting around the island but the weather has been none too cooperative with heavy overcast the whole day and sometimes even dark gloomy clouds like yesterday. This really makes my life a little hard to live here.

Overall I would say my Penang apartment is still in good shape especially after doing some serious cleaning. Right now I so wish I could find a buyer for it. I could use the infusion of cash right about now. Though that’s not to say I’m in any cash flow problem but I don’t work in Penang anymore and maintaining a second place in Penang while staying in KL does present a problem where I have to come and check up on the place every 3 months.

In any event, I’ll be heading back down to KL this Sunday. So until then, pleasant dreams~~
