Here we have again another photo review of my photos. Where I’ll attempt to self judge my own work to understand what work and what doesn’t.
This is one of my favorite pieces since I started to use my s5 along with ND filters.
The place was a small fishing port along the coastal highway of Penang wee early in the morning. I had walked to the end of the pier. I decide to take the regular sunrise photo but after taking about 3 shots of the sun, the pictures felt rather bland. Take note when you look at your own pictures and don’t feel the effect you wish to achieve with them, then you know that you’re not getting it right.
Flowers at Penang hill

Here we are again for another Photo review, although this time its about flowers and not human models.
Most of these were taken using Tamron SP90 90mm f/2.8 AKA the best 3rd party macro lens I have ever used.
I particularly like this shot of a Dahlia because I like how the flower is tack sharp while everything else is rendered out of focus or into bokeh. The only drawback here is that I didn’t use the ample space on the left side. I seem to have this problem where I would always position the main subject following the rule of third even though it might not be a good idea to do so. Which in this case creates an empty vortex on the left side of the picture. Perhaps I should have shot a portrait instead of a landscape frame picture. Either way, I should learn that sometimes it is okay to throw the rules out the window and just focus on the main subject or target.

Now here is another photo review, this was taken in April this year at a little wayward beach in Penang call Batu Ferringgi which is about a 45 minute drive from where I’m living.
This whole model shoot was arranged by one of Penang’s finest model photographer known as T2 (note, mention that name to any photographer worth his salt would know his name and his work).
The shoot took place at about 7am I believe. At the time I would only using my Tamron A16 on my Nikon D50 but gear at this point doesn’t really matter from what I learn from the great masters. Although it does help haha.
I’ll have to admit during this shoot, I took very few photos and pick even fewer photos to upload. I guess I wasn’t in my game that day as there were a number of other photographers and felt bored. Though I was lucky to get in as these was one of the few sessions T2 ever announced for other photographers to join (although you have to pay a fee to the model).
Sherlyn Chew and Sigma 70-200mm HSM macro
Well as promise here is my entry explaining the background about this photo. One of my frequent models that I work with.
This shoot was called because her home village was being promoted as a tourist location in Penang, Malaysia.
** Note: I grab all this information from their website.
Some information about my village:
Today, Penang in 21st century, we have the Clan Jetties in Weld Quay that have physically survived, however, their social-cultural mechanisms have long been reconstituted. Among the remaining jetties, only the Chew Jetty continues to have any clan-related activity – the once a year annual worship of its Temple Deity and “Tee Kong” (God of Heaven or Sky-God ). The event take place on the 9th of Chinese New Year (Lunar Calendar) annually. This distinctive and grand event attracts throngs of people to Chew Jetty to enjoy lion dance and , dragon dances.. On that day, resident place the worship food on the long altar table for praying.
Alright enough with test post….

Alright enough with the test post. Looks like the system works without much fuss.
I guess this is where I tell a little bit about myself, well for starters I’m a photographer (part time only) my full time job is actually a desk monkey (software developer) working from 8 am to 5pm.
Do I like my work? no. Do I love photography? Yes, so why not do it full time? Because I’m in Malaysia where the only type of photography that pays (which is small by the way) is wedding photography which pretty much limits my options of living severely.
This is why I stay at my day job, so I can earn money to live.
So how shall I describe my skills? I like to photograph landscapes, as well as models (although I’m picky about who I do model shooting sessions with, I’m that type of person but than I don’t get a lot of models either).
I would say I try to be a portraitist but I can’t as I don’t have enough good portrait photos to my name. Although I’m working on that. (oh and this is not a photo of me, it’s a photo of a model I sometime work with, I’ll tell you more in my next entry)
I’m more of a landscape photographer, although I’m no Ansel Adam either. I’m just a regular photographer wanna be. So I hope you enjoy the story that follow these entries that tells of how each of the photos in my small but my growing collection of photos are taken as well as the story behind them.
So thanks for stopping by.
My name is Artemis, and pleasant dreams….
